Wedding proposals have really come into their own this year. I’ve done an extraordinary amount of secret proposals and engagement shoots, largely in my home region of Cornwall. That’s meant I’ve worked close to home for the vast majority of the year – like most of us for one reason or another!

Beach proposals have been by far, the most popular choice with tons of couples opting for the Newquay area for both secret proposals and engagement shoots. Trebah Gardens has also been a frequent choice for proposals this year. It’s also great to still see Cornish venues such as St. Michael’s Mount and our local Cornish beaches still topping lists for best places to propose in the UK.

Most of all, I’d like to thank all the lovely couples I’ve been lucky to work with capturing some of the best wedding proposals in Cornwall of 2021. I always consider myself really lucky to be asked to capture such a momentous event. It’s been an absolute joy to work for every couple and I really appreciate the trust you place in me, by allowing me to photograph with creativity, to capture you both at your best.

For me, every engagement is awesome. I don’t take my job for granted and it’s really special to be asked to photograph a proposal or deliver an engagement shoot, every single time.

So thank you all so much and I look forward to the opportunity to shoot lots more secret proposals and deliver engagement shoots in stunning locations in 2022.

1. Newquay Beaches: With the froth-topped waves of the Atlantic Ocean ahead and jagged cliffs behind, the soft sands of Newquay’s beaches are made for wedding proposals. Holywell Bay, Lusty Glaze and Crantock Beach are just some of the many long stretches of golden sand and sweet hidden coves you’ll find in this beautiful corner of Cornwall, topped by the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Beauty.

Beyond the coast, there’s plenty more to uncover in the way of memorable, from breathtaking landscapes to botanical gardens, historic houses, to-die-for hotels, thrilling adventure sports and foodie must-sees, Newquay’s beaches are perfect for a proposal in the most romantic of settings.

1. Trebah Gardens: Perched on a hilltop in Mawnan Smith, Trebah Gardens is awash with beauty from top to toe. Cascading down the hillside, clipped green lawn gives way to 11 color-filled gardens of flowers, trees and plants from all over the world.

At the bottom, an idyllic white-bridge setting, always the favourite choice for a proposal. But that’s not all, walk on a little and you’ll uncover a sweet sandy bay where you can unwind together and revel in the euphoria of all that’s just happened.

St Michael’s Mount: This world-famous Cornish castle, on an island surrounded by water, is simply magical. You’ll have seen images of ancient St Michael’s Mount sitting gloriously atop a hill, with water on every side, lots of times. Walk across to the castle at low tide but later in the day, you’ll need a boat to make the journey back. There’s even a church and sub-tropical gardens on the grounds. Amazing location.
