The Most Romantic places in Cornwall for a Proposal
If you want original romance, unforced thrills and unique experiences, Cornwall is the place to come. From hidden sandy bays encircled by towering cliffs to open moors covered in wildflowers, rugged clifftops with crashing waves below, sublime castles, botanical gardens and more – the options here are endless.
These are the landscapes of the world’s greatest romantic literature, artworks, films and more. Majestic scenes, both indoors and out, are perfect for a marriage proposal. And of course, there’s so much to do here alongside magnificent accommodation of every kind.
These are my favourite Valentine’s day proposal ideas in Cornwall. I’m a Cornwall proposal wedding photographer who also lives in Cornwall. As a local, I have the inside scoop on sublime locations which are unique, amazing and really special.
What does proposal photography involve? I’ll tell you a bit about that too.
Here’s all you need to know for an epic proposal your partner (and their circle) will love.
Top 10 Valentine’s Day Proposal Ideas
1 Kynance Cove
Which is the most epic setting for a proposal in Cornwall? It’s hard to say but Kynance Cove is definitely up there. Conjure the romance of a beach proposal then ramp it up tenfold. A marriage proposal at Kynance Cove will find you at the top or bottom of its monumental rock stacks which finish in the most romantic bay.
Sitting on a blanket with the foamy reaches of the Atlantic just centimetres from your toes, soft sand beneath you and a cave behind – you’ll quickly see why this is one of Cornwall’s most photographed beaches and a favourite destination for filmmakers worldwide.
2 The Minack Theatre
With 360° views out to sea, the Minack Theatre offers a Roman-style amphitheatre setting for your engagement. Perched on the edge of a cliff, the open air amphitheatre creates a staggering backdrop as you propose. If you fancy a walk on the beach, right next door down a coastal path is probably the most iconic beach in Cornwall called Porthcurnco.
3 Tintagel Castle
Booking a Cornwall proposal photographer is not just about preserving a moment; it’s about encapsulating a story. If you or your partner are fans of Arthurian legend, these are the very lands where the tales of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table were born. Imagine ancient castle ruins perched on the edge of grass-topped cliffs, providing a gothic and ethereal frame for the start of your very own romantic legend. Tintagel, with its mystique and magic, is the ideal place to embark on this journey of love.
Moreover, if you time it right and catch the tide ride, you can descend to the beach and create proposal photos inside the enchanting depths of Merlin’s Cave. A Cornwall proposal photographer ensures that every aspect of this extraordinary moment, from the dramatic scenery to the emotional expressions, is beautifully captured, allowing you to revisit and share your unique love story for generations to come. Make your proposal at Tintagel Castle a legendary tale of love, expertly documented by a skilled photographer.
4 Beacon Crag
Cornwall has unique in spades but Beacon Crag is really special. Here you can fulfil every gothic romance dream as you propose on its clifftop wilds. At Beacon Crag there’s nothing but you too, set against a backdrop of open blue skies and magnificent sea views.
I’ve not photographed a proposal at Beacon Crag, but I have captured 3 weddings so I know what amazing photos it can offer.
5 St Michaels Mount
Mount: Imagine getting engaged in a historic castle on its own island. At St Michael’s Mount, you can do exactly that. The medieval castle is positioned in the midst of waters which dramatically disappear at low tide revealing the yellow brick road called the causeway. In the height of summer, this can get very busy with people chasing down the tide down the causeway to be the first on St Michael’s Mount, so taking into account the time of day & tide times needs to be considered.
Paul is a true professional and produced memories that will last forever. As well as being a lovely guy! From the beginning Paul was working alongside me to help make this the best proposal possible.
James & Robyn
Paul helped arrange and capture this absolutely pivotal moment and we are both so grateful to him for all the help he provided.
Once again, you cannot get a better photographer than Paul, it’s not just the photo’s that are important, it’s the whole experience and without Paul that wouldn’t of been possible.

If you want an idyllic beach setting for a private proposal, Lusty Glaze has to be the one. Lusty Glaze is a beautiful private beach with its own indoor facilities. It’s the only beach in the UK licensed for wedding ceremonies so you may even want to return for your wedding day! Newquay has some of the best beaches in Cornwall, Fistral beach, Crantock, Watergate bay to name a few, any of these places are perfect for an evening wedding proposal due to the sun setting on the north coast.

Take your partner to the end of the UK to propose at Land’s End. From here, with unparalleled views across the English Channel, you’ll have the most phenomenal backdrop to accompany you as you pop the question.
Located in an Area of Outstanding Beauty, from here you can spot dolphins and seals, sharks and rare florals. Why not stay in one of its landmark hotels or take a boat trip out to the Isles of Scilly?
8 Trebah Gardens
In a scene reminiscent of Monet’s Water Lilies, the waterlily pond at Trebah Gardens is the dreamiest setting. Standing on its elegant white bridge with the pond scattered with lilies below, it’s no wonder this is Trebah’s top place to propose.
Immersed in the natural beauty of Trebah Gardens, you’ll find yourself surrounded by enchanting flora, creating a picturesque backdrop for your special moment. To capture these cherished memories, consider enlisting the services of a skilled Cornwall proposal photographer. Their expertise in documenting heartfelt emotions will ensure that every precious second is beautifully preserved.
9 St Ives
Known for its golden sand & turquoise waters, St Ives has 7 beaches all within walking distance of the town. St Ives Harbour Hotel and Spa sit just above Porthminster Beach and Carbis Bay Hotel has its very own beach sitting right in front of the hotel. Propose on one of Cornwall’s finest shores below or from the hotel terrace with unrivalled views of St Ives spectacular shoreline behind.
The Island in St Ives is not really an island at all, but a small, grassy peninsula connected to the mainland, this boasts amazing panoramic views of St Ives. This is where St Nicholas Chapel is located, a tiny chapel where you can get married in.
I’ve photographed weddings at Carbis Bay Hotel, Tregenna Castle & St Ives Harbour Hotel where you can soak up sea views from every angle at St Ives beachside hotels. Also, there is loads to do, coastal walks up to the Island, Tate St Ives, the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden and more on your doorstep, the options for outdoor proposal are unlimited here.

The sub-tropical gardens of The Eden Project are a famous UK attraction. The game-changing botanical project is the biggest indoor rainforest in the world. Here amongst its iconic biomes, you can pop the question flanked by its collection of gardens from around the world.
How Proposal Photography Works

After the wedding plans begin, the experience is no longer yours alone. For these reasons and more, proposal photography is really popular.
Most couples choose a private proposal and your engagement photoshoot doesn’t have to intervene. Best of all, stunning photography means you can easily share the magic of your engagement with family and friends around the world.
I provide bespoke proposal photoshoots. We can make it a secret photoshoot so I’m hidden out of sight for the entire time or I can hide out of sight for the marriage proposal and reveal myself later. More
