There’s no question, Newquay is the place to go for a dazzling beach wedding in Cornwall. But which beach should you choose? With its flat cliffs, carefully topped with lush green grass, the stunning unbroken vistas across Fistral Beach are unrivalled.

Fistral Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Cornwall. Home to the Boardmasters Festival and many other international surfing competitions, it’s the best beach for surfing in the UK and amongst the top in Europe, with waves over 9m high.

Unlike so many other beaches, Fistral’s long expanse of soft, golden sand and foam-topped aqua-blue surf is left uninterrupted in every direction – perfect for breathtaking wedding proposal photography.

The beautiful, yet almost flat landscape along this corner of the coast, creates a spectacular canvas for the ultimate backdrop to any wedding proposal in Newquay.

Wherever you turn, you’re treated to the breathtaking sight of an-ever changing cornflower-blue Cornish sky which stretches as far ahead, above and around as the eye can see whilst serene, frothy surf crashes below. It’s an awesome sight whatever the weather but if it’s a sunny day or you’re here at sunset – it will leave you breathless.

Fistral Beach – The perfect proposal location

For places to stay, again it’s all about the scenery. By now you’ll be building a picture of a sensational location with plenty of plush facilities around and that’s exactly right. For gorgeous, luxe accommodation, Newquay has it all. This is the home of sumptuous glamping, beachside rentals, log cabins, manor houses and boutique hotels so you can take your pick here.

For awesome accommodation, right on the beach, it has to be the Headland Hotel and Spa which crowns the clifftop at one end. Of course, the stunning Headland Hotel is an award-winning space and a top Fistral wedding venue with superb facilities and 24/7 sea views.

Other top Fistral hotels include: Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa, The Harbour, The Atlantic Hotel, The Oceanside Hotel and The Carlton.

The sky looks like nothing you’ve seen before. The beach is west-facing so as the sun sets in the north you get an unbroken view of the ombre skyline – it’s phenomenal. For a romantic proposal – Fistral is the one.

Before and after your unforgettable engagement at Fistral, there are tons of exciting things to do and see – fitting for a romantic, life-changing weekend.

Situated between the sought-after locations of Crantock and Newquay, Fistral Beach itself is well-facilitated with plenty of fine eateries and boutiques overlooking the sea. Picture yourself post-proposal, sipping champagne with your loved one on the terrace at Rick Stein Fistral, The Deck at The Headland Hotel or Dune Restaurant, all top restaurants with phenomenal sea views.

Paul is a truly brilliant photographer. He made our wedding proposal at Fistral Beach that little bit more special, and in the run up to the proposal he had great ideas and was really flexible to suit our needs.
Two bits of advice for anyone who is thinking of hiring Paul for their wedding/proposal.

First, listen to Paul’s advice – he knows how to get the perfect shot. Second, stop thinking about it and do it. – Sam

Wow, where to start! So much thought, time and effort went into planning this shoot, and I had absolutely no idea just how special it was going to be. The proposal was a complete surprise to me – I thought we were just having a lovely couple’s photo shoot on the beach –
but I know now how much planning went into the whole day between my (now) fiancée and Paul, and how fundamental Paul was to making sure it went perfectly.

It was overwhelming in the best possible way, and the photographs which resulted are just incredible. – Carleigh

Things to do during your stay

Beyond the beach, Newquay is one of the best places to stay in Cornwall. It has countless award-winning beaches and bays, a fantastic collection of historic and natural wonders plus a wide variety of thrilling attractions to keep you busy.

Take surfing lessons at the Fistral International Surfing Centre on the beach, the home of UK surfing or join an exhilarating coasteering adventure into the rugged cliffs along the coast where you’ll uncover: historic smuggler’s coves, fairytale whirlpools, striking marine wildlife and could even take a leap off a clifftop if you dare.

For other options, there are botanical gardens, a zoo, an aquarium, all sorts of sporting activities, like go-karting, abseiling, archery and so much more. The Eden Project is nearby, as is the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Beauty, ancient woodland, moors and so much more.

Give me a call and let’s talk about your ideas for your romantic proposal in more detail.
