photo bombed by a dog on the Isles of scilliesWhen Ian & Andreea asked me to be their Isles of Scilly wedding photographer I was so excited as having lived in Cornwall most of my life I’ve never actually been.

We were graced with the most stunning of weather for the weekend I was over there. St Marys is a beautiful place to get married, starting at the breathtaking Star Castle for the bridal prep and ceremony, before leaving in a convoy of golf carts heading for the beach for photographs, finishing up at Julets Restaurant with the most stunning sunset.

Here are a few words from the bride and groom about their day.

How did you first meet?

We met at an ultrasound course Ian had organised for the podiatrists in the area.

Please describe the proposal

Ian proposed in the gardens of a stunning stately home on the most beautiful autumn day.

The dress – where did you find it, and what was it like? Who did you take with you dress shopping and how did you find the whole experience?

I bought my wedding dress from Xquisite Bridal in Leighton Buzzard. I loved the style of the owner of the boutique and knew she was going to find me the perfect dress. I tried on 16 dresses and the 16th dress was MY dress. It was the most beautiful dress I had ever seen and it made me look regal. The perfect dress for me.

I went shopping for the dress on my own because I did not want to be influenced by anyone’s taste and opinions. Choosing my wedding dress was an experience that I would wish for any woman. It was an emotional and extremely happy experience although at times challenging and hard work as I wanted the dress to be perfect.

what were the reasons for choosing your wedding venue?

Ian and I, mostly me, wanted a beach wedding. I had never heard of the Isles of Scilly until Ian suggested it to me. After a recce visit in December 2015, I fell in love with the place. It is truly a magical place.

When planning your wedding, did you have any help or did you do it mostly yourselves? What were the most important aspects for you (eg. the photographer, the food, the decor…)?

I pretty much-planned everything. I put all my heart into every single detail. Everything mattered to me as I wanted it to be the perfect day for us and our guests. Looking back now the most important aspects would be Paul our Isles of Scilly wedding photographer, the videographer, the dress and groom’s suit, the food and the weather.

What was your wedding inspiration? (think decor, overall theme and feel of the day, etc)

I wanted to have an elegant beach wedding. The colours for the wedding were ivory white, agapanthus blue and coral. Our wedding favours were seashells made out of chocolate. The wedding cake had lots of seashells on it.

Describe some of your favourite wedding details and how you came up with them.

Two of the best choices for the wedding were the colour coral and the long veil. My bridesmaid wore a coral sari and she looked gorgeous in it. The groom and best man wore coral socks and coral hankies. They look great in the photos. We were lucky to have beautiful blue skies on our wedding day but it was very windy. Although my hairdo got pretty messy, the photos with the veil are stunning.

The flowers also, they exceeded my expectations. I had blue agapanthus, white freesias and a few coral roses.

Bride: What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day?

Choose the best photographer and best videographer you can get because that is what you are left with, the photos and videos. Get the best people to capture your memories and the details of a day you put so much time and effort to make special. Oh, and marry the right guy, as that is who you are left with when the whole “organising the wedding” excitement will end.

Groom: What advice would you give to future grooms for their wedding day?

1. It’s all about the bride.
2. See number 1.
3. Enjoy the day, it will go fast.
4. Enjoy the moment and make memories that will last a lifetime.
5. Find the time to connect with your wife on the day and know you can always come back to that day and what it meant to make that commitment to each other.
6. Don’t drink too much.

Any advice for those planning their wedding now?

Have a schedule, have a plan, keep to it. Do things on time, make sure you don’t get close to the wedding day and are still stressing about a million things that did not get done. Enjoy the process as it’s such a precious time in both your lives.

What’s your top tip for saving money?

Pass, it’s hard to save money when you are organising your most special day as a couple.

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

I will answer this differently…I don’t regret anything we spent money on; I wish I had spent money on a proper videographer as our wedding video has caused me much heartache.

What’s the best thing about being married?

My husband is my safe place. I love the security marriage has given me, the stability and the sense of responsibility.

As usual, here is a selection of favourite from being an Isles of Scilly wedding photographer.  Please feel free to share on social media, or leave a comment.
