Summer wedding in Zermatt
Verena and Nick chose me to photograph their summer wedding in Zermatt after Verena’s father saw my blog post of the winter wedding in Zermatt I photographed the year before.
Having been a ski instructor for many years I’ve been to Zermatt on many occasions for instructor courses, but never in the summer. I arrived in resort the day before and wow, how beautiful the scenery was for a summer wedding in Switzerland.
I met Verona, the bridesmaids and her mum on the morning of the wedding at the hairdressers in Zermatt, before jumping on the Gornergrat train to take us to the Riffelalp Resort 2222m. On arriving up at the destination we are met by the Hotel’s own private train to take us up the final stage to the hotel.
The wedding was held in Riffelalp Church which was a stones throw away from the hotel. Verena is German and Nick is Australian, and both live in Australia. This meant the wedding ceremony was given in German as well as English. After the wedding ceremony it’s a German tradition to have a big heart on a sheet, and for the bride and groom to cut it out and step through it, which was very entertaining for all the guests.
Before the wedding breakfast we were entertained by some Alphorn players. The saying goes, the person who plays the Alphorn the loudest will wear the trousers in the relationship, needless to say that Verena won.
After being very well looked after by the Riffelalp hotel during the wedding breakfast, the speeches started, this again was spoken in English and translated to German for both families. Some beautiful words were said by both fathers to finish before I jumped on the train back down to Zermatt.
As usual here is a selection of some of my favourites from a summer wedding in Zermatt. Please feel free to share on social media, or leave a comment.
