Greenbank Hotel wedding photographer | Falmouth wedding photographer
Simply wow. Two words that I wish to use to describe Laura & Matt’s wedding at the Greenbank Hotel. Oh boy, what a day it was! Despite rain forecasts, and pretty strong winds we managed to have an amazing day with clouds over our heads.
Here are a few words from Matt & Laura’s wedding with some of my favourite images from their Greenbank Hotel wedding.
How did you first meet?
We first met at our friend’s wedding in Cyprus! Matt was best friends with the groom and I was best friends with the bride! We met all the way in Cyprus but it turned out that Matt actually lived down the road from me back at home!
What were the reasons for choosing the Greenbank hotel and Pendennis Castle for your wedding venues?
My mum and dad have a holiday home in Falmouth and I’ve been going my whole life. Falmouth has become a very special place for both of us and so although we did look at alternative options, these two places were always where our hearts were set.
Please describe the wedding proposal
When we first met I was living in London and Laura lived back home in Stourbridge. Laura would come and visit me in London at weekends. I first told Laura I loved her on Albert Bridge over the Thames river back in 2015. After I moved back home to Stourbridge to live with Laura I planned a weekend back in London, although I let Laura believe she had planned the weekend.
We stayed in a hotel opposite Battersea Park, saw the sunset up the Shard, went for a meal at the Folley (where we had gone on our first date), then went for a drink in Chelsea. Afterwards, we walked over Albert Bridge, I told Laura I needed to tie my shoelace, she turned around and I was on one knee and asked her if she would marry me… eventually, after she stopped crying, she said yes!
The dress – where did you find it, and what was it like? Who did you take with you dress shopping and how did you find the whole experience?
I was in LOVE with my dress! I found it on my second shopping trip with my mum, sister and my best friend. It was a Pronovias dress, very simple with detail on the shoulders with a low back. I always knew I wanted something quite slim and simple but with a long veil and it was just perfect.
The whole experience was the best!! I tried on everything – even ones that I didn’t think would suit me and it was amazing doing it!
When planning your wedding, did you have any help or did you do it mostly yourselves? What were the most important aspects for you (eg. the photographer, the food, the decor…)?
We had a lot of support from the wedding planner at The Greenbank Hotel, Jane Williams who put us in touch with fantastic suppliers and our incredible Greenbank Hotel wedding photographer!! She was simply wonderful – she was super organised and was so focused on giving us the day of our dreams!
We did our table decorations ourselves and As Matt is a super talented illustrator he did a caricature of each of our wedding guest which formed our table plan! It was so special because it was so unique!
What was your wedding inspiration? (think decor, overall theme and feel of the day, etc)
The overall theme of our wedding was being by the sea with lavender accessories! It was traditional meets seaside just everything that we loved really!
Describe some of your favourite wedding details and how you came up with them.
Our table names were dates in our lives as a couple so far I.e. when we first met, our first date, moving into our first house etc….
We spent the week of our wedding in a big house in Cornwall with our friends and throughout the week more and more people travelled down so we had a wedding week of celebrations which was magical. The wedding day just topped it off perfectly.
Bride: What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day?
Enjoy every single moment. From the minute I was engaged to the day after our wedding I soaked up every special moment. Enjoy even the little things with your fiancé/husband, family and best friends because although the day is amazing, that time in your life is unforgettable.
Don’t take anything too seriously, if things don’t go exactly the way you planned just don’t stress it. At the end of the day, it’s you and your soulmate getting married and sharing it with the most precious people in your life. It’s all that matters. Treasure every moment x
Groom: What advice would you give to future grooms for their wedding day?
There’s so much to do before and during the wedding day, I would advise getting as much planned and organised beforehand as you can. The less you have to do on the day the more you can relax and enjoy it.
Don’t drink too much the night before, have a good nights sleep so you feel fresh and ready for your big day. Have a schedule for your morning/day and delegate as much as you can so you can focus on enjoying every second because as everyone will tell you… the day goes so fast!
Don’t worry about the weather or if your guests are enjoying themselves, this day is for you and your wife, so make the most of it because it only happens once.
Any advice for those planning their wedding now?
Choose what’s important to you! Don’t stress the small things. Do exactly what you want because ultimately if you are in a room filled with people you love, marrying the love of your life – how could it not be the best day ever?!
… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?
The venue, the photographer, the videographer and the band!
What’s the best thing about being married?
You get to spend every day with your best friend. Knowing you have each other’s backs through the ups and downs, twists and turns of life – no matter what, it’s forever.
