St Austell Brewery Exhibition – Brewing Department
St Austell brewery was the location for the theme of my book project and images from the book were featured in an exhibition at the brewery. The plan for the exhibition was to document the space, textures, machinery and shapes involved in the brewing process.
I held the exhibition in the main visitors centre within the brewery and liaised with the St Austell Brewery staff about the location of the pictures and the book.
While in the visitors centre I shot a time lapse video of the setting up of the exhibition.
Press release
To help advertise my exhibition I wrote the following press release that was put in the local paper and also featured on the ‘this is Cornwall website’ (thisiscornwall.co.uk).
PAUL KEPPEL has taken an in-depth look at the brewing process at St Austell Breweries’ headquarters and produced a series of photographs that will be exhibited in the visitor centre.
‘Brewing Department’ is the title of the exhibition in which he documents the St Austell premises where beers have been brewed for more than 150 years.
Paul had unique access to the whole yard and was particularly interested in the way that traditional brewing techniques are integrated with modern technology. He is currently on a degree course in photography at Truro and Penwith College and said: “While working as a publican, I attended a BII beer and cellar management course which included a tour of the St Austell brewing premises. This left an indelible impression of the sights, sounds, textures, shapes and tastes which I was later to transfer to this project for my photography course.”
Here is a small selection of photographs from the 65 images that are shown in the book.
Here were the two options I had for the book cover. I ended up using the second image as this fitted in with the Gold/Black logo that St Austell Brewery use.
This successful exhibition illustrates just on aspect of my photographic interests but my main area of expertise is wedding photography in Cornwall. If you are planning a wedding or portrait session please contact me or you can view more photographs in my blog area.
