This was my first rustic wedding at Nancarrow Farm and I have to say I can’t wait till my next one. Nancarrow is an organic working farm which also doubles up as a stunning wedding venue which use their own produce from the farm to cater for the wedding. The food itself is exceptional, all prepared on the outside barbeque and was some of the best beef I’ve tasted.
The old Barn and newly restored hay barn with its exposed beams and rustic interior give a relaxed and informal experience that can host large reception parties or smaller, more intimate weddings.
I had the pleasure of photographing the lovely Richard & Siobhan beautiful wedding at Nancarrow Farm, here are a few words about them and their wedding.
How did you first meet?
We first met through my best friend in Brighton. We all went for lunch together and we got on really well and the rest, as they say, is history.
Please describe the proposal?
Rich proposed to me at Bovey Castle on Dartmoor. He hired out the library for the two of us. We had our own waiter for the evening and had a 5-course meal. We sat down in front of the fire afterward and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. (He was so nervous he was trying to open the box back to front)
The dress – where did you find it, and what was it like? Who did you take with you dress shopping and how did you find the whole experience?
I got my dress from Amica bridal boutique in Plymouth. I had my mum, my maid of honour and one of my bridesmaids with me. It was the first appointment I had that day, I had two other booked elsewhere, however, the lady that helped me was amazing and I managed to find my dress there and then after trying on about 10 different styles.
Rustic wedding at Nancarrow Farm
what were the reasons for choosing your wedding venue?
We aren’t religious so we didn’t want to get married in a church. I have worked in hotels before and it really didn’t appeal to me. We loved the idea of a rustic wedding with a barn in mind for the reception, we didn’t expect to find somewhere as beautiful as Nancarrow Farm where we could have the ceremony and the reception so were so excited when we did.
When planning your wedding, did you have any help or did you do it mostly yourselves? What were the most important aspects for you (eg. the photographer, the food, the decor…)?
We didn’t have any help, we planned it all ourselves. (Rich did most of it as we were getting married a lot sooner than expected due to our circumstances). The most important thing for us was having good food, a beautiful location, great entertainment and a photographer to capture all of the above.
What was your wedding inspiration? (think decor, overall theme and feel of the day, etc)
We wanted it to be very rustic and laid back. We wanted mostly to have our closest friends and family there and for them to have an amazing day as well as the two of us.
Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them.
We named our tables after where we first met, where we had our first home together, where was our actual home, where we went on our first holiday together, where rich proposed to me, where we were getting married and where we were going in our honeymoon.
Bride: What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day?
Don’t spend time getting anxious or annoyed if some small detail goes wrong, the day goes by so quickly so don’t waste a second on something so trivial.
Groom: What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day?
Take 10 minutes out to be alone with your new wife at some point during the day. It’s so hectic with everyone wanting to talk to you that the two of you don’t see much of each other at all. The best part of our wedding day for us was when we went to our bridal suite at the end of the evening, sat down on the sofa together and caught up on how each other’s night before and the day was because we were apart for so much of it.
As usual, here is a selection of favourite from a Richard & Siobhan rustic wedding at Nancarrow Farm. Please feel free to share on social media, or leave a comment.
