Winner of the "Best of wedding photographer Cornwall" Simply wedding awards

Wow what a surprise winning the Best Reportage wedding photographer Cornwall at the Simply wedding awards.
It was already an honour to have been selected as a finalist at the awards, and to win was a total shock. Last year I’ve worked really hard improving my documentary photography and booked onto a number of photography course’s with some of the best uk reportage photographers. It’s amazing to be acknowledged for the hard work I’ve put in this year improving my reportage style.
There are many names for this style of photography, “documentary wedding photography,” “wedding photojournalism” and “reportage photography“, to me these all mean the same, Natural story telling images without posing or intervention. I simply observe the day unfold, capturing stunning images as and when they happen.
This isn’t to say I’ve gone full reportage; I still love creating cool unique portraits using colour and dramatic lighting.
Below are some of the comments by my brides and grooms for the awards process:
“Creative. Passionate. Friendly. Talented. Unique.
Fitted in our tiny wedding perfectly. Tried many ways to create edgy unique pictures for us. Went above and beyond on our day and captured moments even in the rain with cool lighting techniques.
A brilliant photographer.”
“My wedding day simply wouldn’t have been the same without Paul. He took some fantastic pictures that will last a lifetime. Everything was effortless and he made the stressful family photos take place with ease. Absolutely fantastic photographer!”
“Right from the moment we met Paul his professional portfolio really stood out and his ability to understand exactly what we wanted from our wedding photographer put us at ease.
“I have always said to my wife that there are two things I would always be willing to spend money on, those are the rings and the photographer this is because no matter how bad the day goes those will last for a lifetime and with Paul he did not disappoint.
Even a year later I find myself regularly looking through the wedding pics and just thinking what an amazing job he did.
From the outset there was a professional yet friendly approach with a well structured website and contract all laid out with simple to use instructions.
It was when he added us on Facebook prior to the wedding that I knew we weren’t going to be just a number, this was his opportunity to understand the kind of pictures we like and the life we live to ensure he captured the most important day in our life’s.
Now it’s not often my wife is on time for, well anything but thanks to Paul’s regimented routine he soon kicked her into gear when she was ‘faffing’ yet managed to capture the most graceful beautiful and natural shots that disguised the madness really taking place.
On the day when you see Paul with two cameras in holsters Round his waist you know he means business and boy did his efforts pay off!
All I can really say is from that day I/we have the most sensational photos capturing the real spirit of the day and avoiding the entire usual cliche/ staged photos showing the natural fun and laughter that took place.
I have done nothing but sing Paul’s praises and recommend him to everyone I know when discussing weddings.
It’s no wonder Paul is constantly up for these awards and I certainly thing it’s definitely time that he got the first place he deserves!”
As a Documentary Wedding Photographer I love stuff like this, Here are some example:
