Best Of British

Michelle  McCoon, a Make-up Artistry Lecturer at Truro & Penwith College, approached me about taking some photographs to launch an event called ‘Best of British’. This photoshoot involved all the sections of  the Hair and Beauty department. The lecturers in hairdressing, makeup and nails, all joined together to transform the model into becoming the ‘Face’ of the event with the images to be used in the college’s publicity material.

The shoot was carried out in the College’s studio with a really simple two light set up and a reflector to bounce some light back up in to the model’s face.

Hayley  McKinstry came up with the Best of British idea. The Cornish Food and Drink Festival was in Truro recently and Hayley thought that the Best of British theme went along nicely with this.

This will now be the theme for the Cornish Skills Challenge. These are competitions throughout the Hair, Beauty and Catering Department at Truro College which take place in February.  Some of the judges from the UK WorldSkills regional heats will come to Cornwall to judge the competitions.

There is no automatic entry from Cornish Skills to UK/WorldSkills but the college can talent spot, and the students can see if they enjoy the whole competition circuit.  WorldSkills is a series of competitions (not just in Hair and Beauty) around this country and many others.  The best of the best then compete at the finals in November and in some subjects/competitions there are World champions.
