2016 was an epic year for me, my busiest year to date, photographing the laughter, the tears and all those moments in-between. It was incredible photographing nearly 40 weddings around Cornwall, Devon, London and further afield in the South of France and not forgetting a trip over to the Isles of Scillies (which I class as my second destination wedding of the year lol). I’ve met lots of amazing people along the way and loved looking back through all the wedding albums trying to choose photographs for this blog. It was so hard to get it down to a reasonable amount, my first cull had me 586!

I think it’s important as an artist to keep pushing boundaries and not get complacent, to keep trying new ideas and to be, well, creative! I attended 4 photography courses this year, 2 of the courses focused on shooting “documentary style.” I took on board lots of really good information from some very experienced documentary photographers, which has changed the way I think at a wedding and also the equipment I use. I’m using my 24, 35, 85mm prime lenses for most of the weddings instead of being lazy and using my 70-200. I almost feel part of the action as I’m in close, which I feel gives the photo a more intimate feel. I was delighted to win Cornwall documentary wedding photographer of the year at the Simply Wedding Awards which I am certainly proud to show off, here are some testimonials from previous brides. I still love creating dramatic portraits for my couples. Two of my “creative flash” images have won international awards and one was in the final for the South West Wedding Awards in the bespoke wedding photographer category which I finished as runner up in 2015.

This year is going to be another great year; the diary is filling up nicely, a couple more training courses booked. The biggest change for 2017 will be the arrival of a new addition to my family, due in March and I cannot wait! I’m sure baby photography could be in the pipelines in the near future.

You’ve all made me feel so welcome and it has been a real honour to witness and capture the joy of all your wedding days.

Here are some of my favourite moments from 2016.
